Summer sun and the long-awaited summer holidays are finally here! At The Academy Clinic we understand that you want to look and feel your best for summer – so here is our guide on scheduling your treatments safely to ensure the best results are achieved.
What should you be aware of?
Some skin resurfacing treatments such as chemical peels and microneedling will require extra caution during the summer period. We advise that you stay away from high levels of sun exposure for two weeks before and two weeks after these particular treatments. Nevertheless this doesn’t mean you need to rule out all skin rejuvenation treatments during the summer period. As long as you are not over-exposing your skin to the sun and wearing SPF everyday you can still enjoy our Bespoke AlumierMD Facials and our new Dermaplaning treatment which exfoliates the skin.
What about injectable treatments?
Another safe way to rejuvenate the skin in the summer is through injectable treatments such as Mesotherapy and Skinboosters which gives your skin additional moisture and a dose of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Luckily injectable treatments such Mesotherapy, Skinboosters, dermal fillers and anti wrinkle injections only require you to stay out of the sun for 48 hours so the summer sun shouldn’t cause a delay in getting your favourite injectable treatments. Remember anti-wrinkle injections can take up to two weeks for optimum results, so make sure you book your appointment in time for any special events coming up.
My top tips for adjusting your skincare regime for the summer:
- Ensure you are wearing SPF 30-50 or above on all sun-exposed areas.
- Do not forget your antioxidants! Vitamin C is a high-grade antioxidant which we recommend you apply under your SPF. This increases protection against the sun and pollution.
- If you already have uneven pigmentation, this may get worse in the summer and you may benefit from an anti pigment serum during summer.
- Be cautious with retinol! Stop wearing retinol a week before any sunny holidays as it is difficult to avoid the sun!
