Important information before booking
The Complications Clinic is an outpatient service providing assessment, diagnosis and treatment for complications relating to non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
The service is not suitable for patients who require urgent emergency care, acute hospital assessment or specialist inpatient management. This includes, but is not limited to, suspected anaphylaxis or severe allergy, vision loss, suspected stroke, severe infection including periorbital or orbital cellulitis, osteomyelitis, airway compromise, severe bleeding, or sudden clinical deterioration.
If any of these symptoms or conditions are suspected, please access emergency services immediately by calling 999 or attending A&E.

Each consultation includes:

The option to add ultrasound imaging for enhanced precision, allowing clinicians to visualise filler placement and guide treatment safely and effectively
Elective Dermal Filler Dissolving
During your consultation, your practitioner may recommend dissolving existing dermal filler. This treatment uses an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down hyaluronic acid fillers so they can be naturally absorbed by the body.
Hyaluronidase is commonly used in aesthetic medicine to safely remove or adjust hyaluronic acid–based dermal fillers. Not all fillers can be dissolved, depending on the material used.
What to Expect
Before treatment, a small skin test may be performed to check for sensitivity. Local anaesthetic may also be discussed to ensure your comfort.
Hyaluronidase is mixed with saline (and sometimes local anaesthetic) and carefully injected into the areas containing filler. In some cases, ultrasound imaging may be used to help locate the filler.
The filler begins breaking down quickly, although swelling may temporarily mask the final result. Occasionally, more than one session may be required to achieve the desired outcome.
After Treatment
It is normal to experience:
Tenderness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site
Temporary swelling that may increase for several hours or the following day before settling
A feeling of dryness or reduced volume initially, as hyaluronic acid naturally present in the skin may also be temporarily affected
Your body typically restores natural hyaluronic acid within around 72 hours.
If you wish to have filler re-treated, we recommend waiting at least 2 weeks (ideally 4 weeks) before reassessment.
Risks to Be Aware Of
Please inform your practitioner if you have a known allergy to bee or wasp stings, as hyaluronidase has similarities to these venoms.
Possible risks include:
Allergic reactions
Swelling or tissue trauma
Infection
Incomplete dissolving or residual asymmetry, which may require further treatment
Unpredictable aesthetic outcomes
Your practitioner will discuss these risks with you before treatment.
Aftercare Advice
For the first 24 hours after treatment:
Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area
Avoid makeup, skincare products, lip balms, or SPF on the injection sites
Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and strenuous exercise
Avoid saunas and steam rooms
Avoid smoking where possible to support healing
If needed, you may contact the clinic to arrange a review appointment or additional dissolving treatment.
