Chemical Peels VS Microneedling: Which is best suited to your skin goals?
Why are skin treatments relevant?
No matter how much you invest in injectable treatments, your skin won’t change in texture, colour or clarity unless you target it directly with less invasive skin rejuvenation treatments like micro-needling, chemical peels and ongoing skin care regimes. For women, collagen production is linked to hormonal changes and so the skin can change dramatically after pregnancy or during the pre-menopause phase.
Let’s talk a little more in detail about what skin treatments are available at The Academy Clinic and the difference between them.
What is a Chemical Peel?
Our The Academy Clinic practitioners will talk you through the different peels in your consultation. Chemical peels exfoliate your skin, removing the top layer of dead skin cells and encouraging new ones to form. This reveals the softer, smoother skin beneath.
There is a peel out there that will be suitable for you. The downtime from this procedure depends on whether the peel is performed on superficial or deeper skin layers. Lighter peels are even referred to as “lunchtime peels” or a “medical facial”– meaning there isn’t any visible peeling. You may see results after one session but we always recommend a course of three to six in combination with a personalised skin care regime for best results!
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is using a small needle device over the skin. The penetration of the needles will create controlled punctures, which encourage the body’s natural healing process and initiates skin renewal. During this process, the production of elastin and collagen is triggered, therefore rejuvenating the skin. Microneedling is commonly used to decrease the appearance of superficial scarring, pigmentation, ageing and sun damage. This treatment has minimal downtime and can be used anywhere on the body. Prior to treatment, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied for your comfort.
For optimal results, your practitioner may also use a mesotherapy solution immediately post-treatment. Mesotherapy solutions are packed with antioxidants and nutrients which can penetrate the skin through the tiny microneedling punctures. Again a course of three to six sessions is advised.
We offer these treatments as a Cosmetic Model in our training clinics.
