Microneedling
Stimulate collagen to refine texture, scarring and overall skin quality.
About the treatment
A personalised approach to microneedling
Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy treatment that uses a medical-grade microneedling device to create controlled micro-injuries within the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing response, encouraging collagen and elastin production to improve skin quality, texture and overall appearance.
By increasing cell turnover and supporting skin regeneration, microneedling can help address concerns including fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, acne scars and changes associated with ageing skin.
Treatment can be tailored to your individual skin concerns and goals, with the face and neck commonly treated areas. Your practitioner will assess your skin during consultation and recommend the most appropriate treatment depth and approach for your needs.
Some skin types, particularly those prone to pigmentation, may benefit from a period of skin preparation before treatment to optimise results and ensure the procedure is performed safely.
How we approach it
Every microneedling treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation where your GOLD skin practitioner assesses your skin concerns, medical history, current skincare routine and treatment goals.
Using a personalised approach, we consider factors such as your skin type, sensitivity, pigmentation risk and desired outcome to determine whether microneedling is suitable and how your treatment should be tailored.
Where appropriate, your practitioner may recommend skin preparation or combining microneedling with other evidence-based treatments to support your long-term skin goals.
Who it’s for
Microneedling may be suitable for adults looking to improve skin texture, stimulate collagen production or address concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scarring and uneven skin quality.
It is commonly chosen by patients wanting to refresh and improve the overall appearance of their skin, whether they are noticing early signs of ageing, changes in skin texture or looking to improve the appearance of scars.
Microneedling is suitable for a wide range of skin types, although suitability will be assessed during your consultation to ensure the treatment is appropriate for your individual skin needs.
Microneedling is not recommended immediately before or after significant sun exposure, including holidays where you are likely to spend extended time in the sun. We recommend avoiding treatment for at least 4 weeks before and after a sunny holiday to allow your skin barrier to recover and reduce the risk of complications such as pigmentation changes.

Recovery, results & aftercare
Recovery
Following microneedling, the skin may appear red and feel warm, similar to mild sunburn. Some patients may experience mild swelling, sensitivity, dryness or flaking over the following days as the skin heals and regenerates. Most redness typically settles within 24-72 hours, although recovery time can vary depending on treatment intensity and individual skin response. Your practitioner will provide personalised aftercare advice, including recommendations on skincare, sun protection and when to resume active ingredients.
Results
You may notice an immediate improvement in skin brightness and texture following microneedling, with further improvements developing over the following weeks as collagen production increases. A course of 3-4 treatments are often recommended to achieve optimal results, with the number of sessions depending on your skin concerns and treatment goals. Results can continue to improve for several months as new collagen is formed. Maintenance sessions are recommended.
Aftercare
For the first 24 hours, avoid makeup, touching the skin, strenuous exercise, alcohol and heat exposure including saunas, steam rooms and hot showers. For 7 days following treatment, avoid active skincare ingredients such as retinol, AHAs, BHAs and exfoliants. Use gentle, hydrating skincare to support skin recovery. For 4 weeks, avoid sunbeds, excessive sun exposure and advanced aesthetic treatments. Daily SPF 50 is essential to protect your skin and maintain results.
