We’re excited to introduce Morpheus8 to The Academy Clinic, now available as part of our Gold Skin tier at our Threadneedle clinic in London.
Morpheus8 is an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to improve skin texture, firmness and overall skin quality.
By delivering controlled RF energy beneath the surface of the skin, Morpheus8 can target concerns including skin laxity, fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores and scarring.
In this guide, we explain how Morpheus8 works, what it can treat, how it compares with traditional microneedling and what to expect before, during and after your treatment.
What is Morpheus8?
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to support skin tightening, collagen production and improvements in skin quality.
Fine microneedles penetrate the skin at controlled depths, delivering RF energy into the targeted tissue. This creates a controlled response that stimulates collagen and elastin production, supporting improvements in skin firmness and texture.
The depth and energy settings can be adjusted according to the treatment area and your individual concerns.
What is the difference between Morpheus8 and microneedling?
While both treatments use fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin and stimulate collagen production, Morpheus8 also delivers radiofrequency energy beneath the skin’s surface.
Traditional microneedling works primarily through the mechanical action of the needles. Morpheus8 combines this with RF energy, allowing the treatment to target deeper layers of tissue.
This makes Morpheus8 an option for patients looking to address skin laxity and firmness alongside concerns such as texture, fine lines and scarring.
What concerns can Morpheus8 address?
Morpheus8 can be used to improve the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin laxity and loss of firmness
- Jowls
- Uneven skin texture
- Enlarged pores
- Acne scarring and other types of scarring
- Lines and crepey skin on the neck and décolletage
What are the benefits of Morpheus8?
Skin tightening
RF energy is delivered into the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of firmness and laxity.
Improved skin texture
Morpheus8 can help create smoother, more even-looking skin and improve the appearance of certain types of scarring.
Collagen stimulation
The treatment stimulates the skin’s natural collagen-remodelling process, with results developing gradually over time.
Customisable treatment
Treatment depth and energy levels can be adjusted depending on the area being treated, your skin and your individual goals.
What happens during a Morpheus8 treatment?
Consultation
Your appointment begins with a consultation with our skin specialist. This is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, assess your skin and determine whether Morpheus8 is appropriate for you.
Preparation
Before treatment, your skin will be cleansed and prepared. A topical anaesthetic may be applied beforehand to help maximise your comfort.
Treatment
Your skin specialist will use the Morpheus8 device to deliver microneedling and RF energy to the targeted areas.
The treatment settings are selected according to your skin and the area being treated.
Aftercare
You’ll receive detailed aftercare advice following your treatment, including guidance on skincare, sun protection and when you can return to your usual activities.
How many Morpheus8 treatments will I need?
A course of three treatments is recommended for many patients.
At The Academy Clinic:
- Individual treatment: £450
- Recommended course: 3 treatments
- Course of 3 including skin prep: £1,250 — saving £100
Your skin specialist will confirm whether a course of three treatments is appropriate for your skin and treatment goals.
How often will I need Morpheus8?
Treatments are typically spaced 4 weeks apart.
This gives your skin time to recover between treatments and allows the collagen-remodelling process to develop.
Your treatment schedule may vary depending on the area being treated, treatment intensity and your individual response.
How much downtime does Morpheus8 involve?
Morpheus8 involves some downtime, although this varies between individuals.
Immediately following treatment, your skin may appear red and feel warm or sensitive. Swelling and small marks from the microneedles are also possible.
For many patients, the most noticeable redness and sensitivity settles within a few days, although your skin may take longer to completely return to normal.
How long should I allow for recovery?
We recommend allowing around 2–5 days for the initial recovery period, although this can vary depending on your treatment settings and individual skin.
During this time, you’ll need to avoid activities such as strenuous exercise, swimming, saunas and significant heat or sun exposure, following the specific aftercare advice provided after your treatment.
How long does a Morpheus8 appointment take?
You should allow approximately 60–90 minutes for your appointment, depending on the treatment area.
This includes preparation and the treatment itself. If topical anaesthetic is required, additional time may be needed before the treatment begins.
Where can Morpheus8 be used?
Morpheus8 can be used on a number of areas where improvements in skin texture, firmness and quality are desired.
Common treatment areas include:
- Face
- Jawline
- Jowls
Your skin specialist will advise which areas are appropriate based on your concerns and treatment goals.
Morpheus8 is exclusively available as part of our Gold Skin offering at The Academy Clinic’s Threadneedle clinic in London.
Can Morpheus8 reduce volume in your face?
Morpheus8 is primarily a skin rejuvenation treatment, rather than a facial fat-reduction treatment.
However, radiofrequency delivered at particular depths and energy settings can affect the tissue beneath the skin, including subcutaneous fat. This means treatment settings need to be carefully considered, particularly when treating areas where maintaining facial volume is important.
If you have a naturally slim face or are concerned about facial volume loss, discuss this with your skin specialist before treatment.
Can Morpheus8 be combined with other skin treatments?
Yes. Morpheus8 can form part of a wider skin treatment plan, but treatments need to be carefully timed to allow the skin to recover.
Depending on your individual concerns, Morpheus8 can be combined with treatments such as Profhilo and polynucleotides to support overall skin quality and rejuvenation.
Your skin specialist can advise on the most appropriate combination and timing for your skin.
How long after Morpheus8 can I have injectables?
The timing depends on the injectable treatment, the treatment area and how your skin has recovered.
As a general approach, you should allow the skin to fully recover following Morpheus8 before having injectable treatments.
For treatments such as dermal filler or Profhilo, we recommend waiting 4 weeks.
If you’re already having injectable treatments or unsure of when to book, let us know during your consultation so that your treatment schedule can be planned appropriately.
How should I prepare for Morpheus8?
Before your appointment, you may be advised to:
- Avoid excessive sun exposure and use SPF 50 daily.
- Stop using active skincare ingredients such as retinoids and acids for the period advised by your skin specialist.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment.
- Arrive with clean skin.
You’ll receive any additional preparation instructions specific to your treatment before your appointment.
Morpheus8 aftercare: what should I expect?
Good aftercare is important while your skin recovers.
Immediately after treatment
Follow the aftercare instructions provided by your skin specialist and avoid unnecessarily touching the treated area.
Use only the skincare products recommended following your treatment.
The following day
Gently cleanse as advised and apply SPF 50.
Avoid direct sun exposure, strenuous exercise, swimming and excessive heat, including saunas, until your skin specialist advises that it is safe to resume these activities.
You’ll also be advised when your skin is ready for make-up.
During the first week
Avoid active skincare ingredients such as retinoids and exfoliating acids until your skin has recovered and you’re advised to restart them.
Continue using SPF 50 and minimise sun exposure.
Is Morpheus8 safe?
As with any aesthetic or skin treatment, Morpheus8 carries potential risks and side effects.
Because RF energy is delivered beneath the surface of the skin, appropriate treatment depth, energy settings and technique are important.
Your consultation is an important part of the process, giving you the opportunity to discuss the treatment, potential risks and whether Morpheus8 is appropriate for you before proceeding.
Is Morpheus8 suitable for me?
Morpheus8 may be an option if you’re looking to improve:
- Skin firmness and laxity
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven skin texture
- The appearance of certain types of scarring
- Skin quality on the face, neck or décolletage
It isn’t suitable for everyone. Your skin specialist will assess your skin and medical history and discuss your goals before recommending treatment.
