Let's Talk Botox®️

‘Wrinkle relaxing injections’ and ‘anti-wrinkle injections’ are phrases often referring to the same treatment – the use of a prescription-only medicine Botulinum Toxin, otherwise known as BOTOX®️. BOTOX®️ is a treatment involving small injections that reduce muscle movement to treat fine lines and lift muscles in specific areas of the face.  There are many misleading untruths out there when it comes to this popular treatment – so let us take you through some need-to-know info…

What is BOTOX®️?

Botulinum toxin (BOTOX®️) is a naturally occurring protein which when injected into facial muscles stops them from contracting. It can be used to treat Crow’s Feet, Frown Lines and Forehead Lines. Deciding which of these areas will be determined by your consultation prior to treatment and your personal goals. It’s never one treatment suits all!

Those sneaky lines

Muscle movement, along with general ageing and skin damage can cause fine lines and wrinkles. As specific muscles continue to move the fine lines and wrinkles can become present at rest, as we age. By reducing muscle movement, we can help reduce ‘dynamic’ lines that appear when we move our face. ‘Static’ lines are those lines we can see without any movement, and there is no guarantee that these can be treated completely, although mild to moderate static lines may be softened as a result of this treatment too.

This is why we refer to this treatment as anti-wrinkle or wrinkle-relaxing injections.

When can you expect to see results?

You’ll begin noticing changes within 5-10 days and can take a couple of weeks for the full effect (so prepare to wait 14 days to see your full result). You’ll have to be a little patient after treatment before you start to see the desired results!

The treatment will gradually wear off as the muscles start working again. Most people have about 3-4 months reduction in facial muscle movement and then return for further treatment, as unfortunately, it does not last forever! Although that’s a good thing – as it means we can begin each treatment with a consultation first to ensure we are still approaching your treatment in the right way, and can make any adjustments as required over your repeat treatments with us.

Botox results

As a very quick treatment, sometimes it takes longer to consult and assess you, than actually administer it! We use really small needles and there is minimal to almost no discomfort.

Fresh not frozen!

You are unlikely to look frozen, this would look rather unnatural as some movement of the face is normal. At The Academy Clinic we are all about natural-looking results – fresh not frozen! This is why your consulation before your treatment is so important.

The side effects and complications are rare too. These are discussed with you with a face to face consultation and assessment, where we can reassure you and answer all your questions. The great news is that, used well, there are also no side effects from having this treatment long term too!

Consultation is key

Not everyone receives the same treatment, as everyone is different and has individual treatment goals. Some patients choose to have little to no movement, whereas others prefer to maintain a more natural appearance. Your practitioner can guide you as to what is possible, and appropriate for you individually. BOTOX®️ is one way to address facial lines, but is not always the correct treatment for everyone or may require a combination of skin treatments to achieve your desired results. This is why you will always have a consultation to ensure your chosen treatment is the right one for you!

We are always here to discuss your options with you – email us at info@theacademyclinic.co.uk or call our patient coordinator on 0203 884 3246.
