How Often Should You Have Skin Treatments for the Best Results?

A woman receiving Profhilo treatment

At The Academy Clinic, one of the most common questions we hear is, “How often should I get skin treatments?”  With so many innovative options available, it can be overwhelming to determine which treatment is best for your skin type, what the financial investment looks like, and when you’ll start to see results. While your at-home skincare routine is essential, incorporating in-clinic treatments can elevate your results and truly transform your skin. Treatments like injectables, peels, and facials can target concerns that skincare alone may not fully address.

In this blog, we’ll break down different skin treatments, how often you should have them, and what to expect in terms of results. Whether you’re looking for a monthly facial, a seasonal peel, or long-term skin benefits with injectables, we’ll guide you through the best approach to achieving your skin goals.

Understanding the Basics: Why Timing Matters

The frequency of your treatments is crucial for achieving optimal results and maintaining your skin’s health. Having treatments too frequently can overstimulate your skin, whereas waiting too long may reduce their effectiveness. Each treatment has its own unique mechanism of action and, therefore, a recommended schedule.

Our Range of Skin-Enhancing Treatments

At The Academy Clinic, we offer a comprehensive range of injectable and skin-rejuvenating treatments designed to address your individual needs. Let’s delve into the recommended timelines for each.

Our Comprehensive Treatment Breakdown

Skinboosters

  • Skinboosters are injectable treatments with hyaluronic acid as the key ingredient, working to plump the skin by restoring deep hydration. Skinboosters achieve immediate results with minimal downtime.
  • How it works: The hyaluronic acid creates a reservoir of moisture in the deeper layers of the skin, resulting in a plump, dewy complexion. In addition, Skinboosters also stimulates collagen production, leading to long-term skin improvement.
  • Frequency Advice: For best results, we recommend treatments every 3-9 months, adjusted to your skin’s needs. However, drier skin or those in harsh environments may benefit from more frequent sessions.

Profhilo®

  • Profhilo® is a revolutionary injectable treatment that stimulates the production of both collagen and elastin, the building blocks of firm, youthful skin. As a result, it spreads evenly beneath the skin’s surface, addressing skin laxity and improving overall skin quality.
  • How it works: Profhilo®’s unique formulation triggers a bio-remodeling process, effectively tightening and lifting the skin without adding volume.
  • Frequency Advice: A course of two treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, is essential for initial results. Maintenance treatments every 3-6 months will sustain the benefits.

Profhilo® Structura

  • Profhilo® Structura is a specialised version of Profhilo®, designed to target specific areas requiring structural support, such as the jawline and neck. In particular, it addresses skin laxity and improves contours.
  • How it works: By strategically placing injections, Profhilo® Structura provides a lifting and tightening effect, helping to regenerate subcutaneous fat and restore volume in a natural way.
  • Frequency Advice: We recommend two treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart and then a top up in 6 months, results can vary person to person and this will be discussed in your consultation.

Polynucleotides

  • Polynucleotides are fragments of DNA that stimulate fibroblasts – the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. They deliver both immediate and long-term regenerative benefits, improving the skin’s appearance and overall health from within.
  • How it works: These powerful molecules work at a cellular level, stimulating the skin’s natural healing process to refine texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. Polynucleotides also enhance skin elasticity and collagen production, strengthening the skin. In addition, the treatment improves the longevity and outcome of advanced treatments like dermal fillers by providing better structural support.
  • Frequency Advice: For best results, a series of 3-6 treatments, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, is recommended. Following this initial course, we recommend a maintenance treatment every 3-6 months.

Microneedling

  • Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin to increase blood flow, cell turnover and collagen production.
  • How it works: The micro-injuries trigger a cascade of growth factors that stimulate the body’s natural healing response, promoting collagen and elastin production. This process improves skin texture, reduces scarring, and minimises pore size, leading to your skin looking smooth, clear and healthy .
  • Frequency Advice: For optimal results, a series of 3-6 sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart, is recommended. After the initial course, maintenance treatments can be scheduled as needed, typically every 3-6 months, to sustain and enhance results.

Chemical Peels

  • Chemical peels involve the application of a solution that exfoliates the top layers of skin, revealing a smoother, brighter complexion. They address various concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, and acne. Our selection of chemical peels range in intensity, enabling us to customise a treatment that perfectly addresses your individual skin needs and concerns.
  • How it works: By removing dead skin cells, chemical peels stimulate cell turnover and collagen production, leading to improved skin texture and tone.
  • Frequency Advice: A series of 6 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, is generally recommended for optimal results. Maintenance peels can be performed as needed.

Hydrafacial

  • Hydrafacial is a multi-step treatment that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, and hydrates the skin. It delivers instant results, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and revitalised.
  • How it works: The Hydrafacial uses a patented vortex technology to gently remove impurities and deliver nourishing serums deep into the skin.
  • Frequency Advice: For optimal skin health and a consistent glow, we recommend a Hydrafacial every 4 weeks.
