The 2024 wedding skincare guide for Brides and Grooms

Bride and groom

The big day is just months away, you’ve got everything under control except for your pre-wedding skincare regime. Fear not, The Academy Clinic has taken this vital task off your to do list, so pour yourself a glass of bubbly or a cup of tea and take a look at our expert pre-wedding skincare tips for radiant skin on your special day.

Be consistent and start early with your skincare routine

Good things take time! Your skin has a renewal cycle of roughly 6 weeks, so aim for 7-8 months of consistent practices for optimal results. Start with the below essential daily skincare regime to set you up in good stead:

  • Cleanse your skin using lukewarm water and a PH friendly product once in the morning and double cleanse nightly to remove makeup and impurities, preventing clogged pores.
  • Daily SPF 30+ is non-negotiable for protecting against sun damage and premature ageing.
  • Weekly exfoliation to remove dead skin and keep your face looking smooth, radiant and feeling soft.
  • Moisturise daily to keep your complexion looking hydrated, healthy and glowing.
  • Niacinamide and vitamin C antioxidants to prevent the ageing process and protect the skin from free radical damage.
  • Retinol to stimulate collagen production and extend the results achieved from in clinic treatments.

Advanced Treatments for Deeper Radiance:

Once you have established a good consistent daily skincare routine you can move onto exploring more advanced treatments after a thorough consultation with a medical professional.

  • Skin peels and microneedling exfoliate and rejuvenate, refining texture and minimising fine lines. Consider a course of 4-6 peels starting 6 months before the wedding. Downtime varies, so plan accordingly.
  • Anti-wrinkle injections subtly smooth existing wrinkles and prevent new ones. Start 6 months prior for a trial and optimal results. We recommend starting with a low dose to ensure a natural, more subtle result that takes 2-3 weeks to show its full effect and typically lasts 3-4 months. Anti-wrinkle treatment can also manage underarm sweating for a stress-free summer wedding.
  • Soft tissue fillers address concerns like under-eye circles, cheekbone definition, and lip enhancement. Start 6 months beforehand to account for potential bruising. Remember, subtle is key for a natural look.

We advise against introducing any new products or treatments close to the big day to avoid skin sensitivity, reaction or irritation.

Be kind to yourself

Weddings can be both an exciting buildup but also a very stressful time in your life, so include a healthy diet and lifestyle to help you feel your best in the run up to your big day.

  • Take some time out each week to move your body whether that’s yoga, running or a good boxing class. All movement is helpful for de-stressing and your overall health.
  • Reduce your sugar intake to avoid breakouts.
  • Eat foods rich in omega oils, vitamins B,C, D and E as well as drink plenty of water (ideally 2 litres a day) to get the most out of your skin health.

Bride to be

Meet one of The Academy Clinic patients Megan, after a romantic beachside proposal, she’s now planning her dream wedding in the stunning setting of Montenegro this August. Megan caught up with Harley Academy skin expert, Maja Swierczynska, to understand her goals in the lead-up to her wedding.

What are your skincare goals ahead of your wedding?

I’ve never invested lots of time in making sure my skin gets the TLC it needs, so with my wedding looming it was the perfect opportunity to dedicate some time to help me get that glowing look that all brides strive for! I want a relatively fuss-free plan that helps me to feel my best on the day! The internet can be very overwhelming!

What did Maja recommend to make sure you achieved your skincare goals?

Maja was amazing! It was so helpful to get a good understanding of the areas I should focus on. I have some sun damage from years of enjoying the sunshine so the first steps were based on considering a simple product routine that would help with making sure I had the best foundations for any treatment to be as effective as possible. We spoke about a range of treatments that I could book that would improve my skin health in the build up to the wedding. It was really helpful to work backwards from my wedding date so I have a simple schedule to follow on top of my daily routine which includes a combination of micro-needling, chemical peels and anti-wrinkle injections.

Have you felt informed and educated about the extensive treatments The Academy Clinic offers patients?

100%! It’s been amazing to get some guidance on the treatments that will work best for my skincare goals and I love the fact that I can get everything booked up in advance so I have a clear schedule leading up to the wedding – I’m feeling very organised!

How has your experience been so far with The Academy Clinic?

I love everything about it – the team is always so friendly and informative! The thing I loved most about my experience is that I learn so much about the medical process during the treatment which makes me feel really reassured that the correct procedure is being followed and considered!
